In-group bias: We favor people in our group and are skeptical of outsiders. Republicans view Republican-proposed policies more favorably than identical Democratic-proposed policies.

Hindsight bias: After something happens, we convince ourselves we knew it would happen. "I always knew that would fail" feels true, but you probably thought it might work before the failure.

The argument is valid. The premises are true. The conclusion follows logically. But the business owner is biased—they're emphasizing positive metrics while downplaying negative ones (maybe employee turnover is up, or debt is increasing).

The logical argument is flawless. The bias is in what gets argued about and what evidence gets highlighted.

Can You Make a Logical Fallacy While Being Unbiased?

Yes. Here's an example:

A statistician, trying to explain why correlation doesn't prove causation, says: "My colleague argues that depression causes insomnia. But my colleague is depressed themselves, so their argument is wrong."

The statistician has made an ad hominem fallacy—attacking the colleague rather than the argument's logic. Meanwhile, the statistician might be completely unbiased about whether depression causes insomnia. They're just arguing poorly.

(In fact, depression does often cause insomnia, so the colleague's conclusion is correct, but the statistician's refutation is logically flawed.)
